Clianda Florence is an educator, author, mother of three, and current student at the University of Rochester. As a mother, a caretaker, and a teacher, Clianda recognizes the struggle for housing as an issue that impacts everyone in cities across New York. When her landlord ignored necessary repairs that threatened the health and safety of her children, Clianda began calling code enforcement. But when her landlord filed a retaliatory eviction against her, Clianda joined the City Wide Tenant Union of Rochester to fight to stop unjust evictions for all New York State., first by fighting for an eviction moratorium during the pandemic and then fighting for permanent eviction protections in the form of Good Cause Eviction. With the support of her community, Clianda urges others to never feel like they have to concede to inequitable living standards because of fear of landlords.
