Tenants Have New Rights!

NYS passed Good Cause Eviction Protections against rent hikes and unfair evictions in April 2024. If you are eligible for Good Cause, you now have a right to remain in your home as long as you pay rent and follow your lease.

This website is owned and operated by Housing Justice for All/Upstate Downstate Housing Alliance. We recognize that visitors to our site may be concerned about the information they provide to us, and how we treat that information. This Privacy Policy addresses those concerns. This policy may be changed or updated from time to time.

If you have any questions about our Privacy Policy, feel free to contact us at info@housingjusticeforall.org. We are available to answer your questions or hear your concerns.

Our Policy

Housing Justice for All uses its best efforts to respect and protect the privacy of our online visitors and donors. We will not sell your email address or phone number to third parties.

What information do we collect?

In various places on our website, we gather email addresses and other basic contact information for the purpose of allowing people to join HJ4A, take actions, RSVP for events and interface with social media sites, etc. We also gather contact information from individuals who choose to donate to us in order to process their donations, acknowledge them in a timely manner, and keep donors informed about the impact of our work.

HJ4A partners with third-party service providers to host our website, donation platform and email list. Third-party service providers are not permitted to use or share any personally identifiable information that we provide to them. HJ4A does not share any of the personally identifiable information we collect with other outside parties, unless we have received your specific permission to do so.

Like most website operators, our web servers create log files. Server log files do not contain personally identifiable information. These track data on Internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks to enable us to administer the site, analyze trends, track user movement in the aggregate, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. Server log files do not contain personally identifiable information.

Petitions, Emails to Legislators, Event Sign Ups

For petitions and surveys you’ve signed or completed, we treat your name, city, state, and comments as public information – for example, we may provide compilations of petitions, with your comments, to legislators or public officials. We will not make your street address publicly available. In certain cases, we enable you to send individual emails directly to elected officials. These messages are sent in your name, with your e-mail address as the return address and your full name and contact information is provided as part of the submission. These messages will only be sent out under your name as you approve them on an individual basis using our email tool. You are solely responsible for the specific message(s) you send using our email tool.

We may occasionally launch petitions or other campaigns in collaboration with allied organizations, who will be clearly disclosed on the page. If you sign on to join such a campaign, you may also receive updates from those allies. We may share limited contact information with coalition partners for one-time use to advance our campaigns, for example, communicating with you about logistics for an event you’ve signed up to participate in.
